Calm Reflections
As with all my paintings the inspiration comes from what catches my attention as I walk about the Scottish landscape with a mindful mindset. For this series of paintings I was moved by the horizontal lines of light and shadow that played on the sea as I gazed across to the mainland from the Isle of Arran.
But these pieces are also about simplifying and decluttering. Creating a space that is unencumbered by unnecessary distractions and noise.
I want to create ‘sanctuaries for the soul’ where one can feel light and spacious, be still, rebalance and find a calmness within.

'A stillness within' is inspired from the view across the sea from the Isle of Arran.
Standing on the shoreline I can feel my myself recalibrating within, coming back to a more balanced and happier level. I love letting a feeling of peace wash over me, creating a stillness within, much the same as when I practice meditation.
My intention for this painting is to bring ease and create a space to rest and reset, without any distractions or noise.
The cool fresh colours are reminiscent of a beautiful sunny day with the blue sky reflecting in the calm water. The frame is hand painted in a light grey with a hint of green that sets off the painting beautifully as in the pictures.

'Quiet Reflection' is inspired from looking across the sea from the shoreline on the Isle of Arran.
I love the simplicity of this view, free from any unnecessary distractions. Daily life can burden us with too many worries and I have found that finding a stillness within has been fundamental to creating a happier mental wellbeing.
My intention for this painting is to bring ease and create a ‘sanctuary for the soul’.
The warm colour palette of peach, cream and lilac are reminiscent of a glowing sunset with the purples and ochres of the sky reflecting alongside the turquoise lines in the water. The frame is hand painted in a light grey with a hint of green that sets off the painting beautifully as in the pictures.

'Creating balance' is inspired from a place in Lamlash, Isle of Arran.
As I look back across the sea to the mainland, I get an enormous sense of wellbeing and can recalibrate from overwhelm or stress, much the same as when I practice meditation.
My intention for this painting is to bring ease and create a space that is free from unnecessary distractions or noise.
The cool colours of turquoise, creams and blue-greys harmonise beautifully with warmer sienna browns and dusky pinks to fill one with a sense of serenity. The frame is hand painted in a light grey with a hint of green that sets off the painting beautifully as in the pictures.

'Finding balance' is inspired from standing on the shoreline on the Isle of Arran, gazing across to the distant horizon line of the mainland.
Life can be very fast paced and it can be hard to find times to stop and take a breath. I have found it fundamental to my mental wellbeing to find and create more inner balance, which I can get from being outside or when making art.
My intention for this painting is to bring ease and create a space to rest and reset. The cool colours of turquoise, creams and blue-greys harmonise beautifully with warmer sienna browns and salmon pinks to fill one with a sense of serenity. I have loved getting lost in my process of imprinting different textures into the paint that results in inobtrusive patterns that entice you to come closer and find joy and peace in the rich surface textures.
