These Rosebay willowherb flowers always add wonderful pops of colour to the hedgerows. I spent many months sketching wild flowers and then building them into my paintings. This was a time when I was exploring acrylic paint with collage adding layers upon layers upon layers! I was applying paint, wiping off with different tools, scratching back and painting over with another glazed layer. A very slow but satisfying process.

I have always loved trees and am always drawn to them when out walking my dog Buster. This painting captures the late glow of the sun through the bare branches at the end of a winter’s day. It was cold when I was out sketching that day but this scene lit me up inside, which is why I have chosen rich warm colours. I became really interested with the negative spaces that the tree branches allowed for.

This piece has a strong sense of movement that comes from the sweeping gestures made with the paintbrush and other tools. I love standing at the edge of water and watching the birds swooping and soaring above with so much freedom, however I also feel a wonderful sense of calm and ‘letting go’ which I have portrayed through the crisp clean aqua, cream and salmon colours. I have hand painted the frame in a warm brown grey that sets off the painting beautifully as in the pictures.

I became very interested in finding views where the huge Scottish mountains tower over a man made building. This piece is full of vibrant colours and textures where I explored adding hand sewn pieces, paper collage as well enjoying the interesting surface textures made from mixing oil and water based materials together. This painting sings of the joy that the Scottish landscape brings to me. It is framed in a hand painted charcoal grey tray frame that sets off the colours beautiffully
