This painting was inspired by a camping trip to the Inner Hebrides where I was inspired by the vast ever changing skies and views out to sea as I walked along the remote sandy beaches.

I have been absolutely mesmerized by the huge skies whenever I go walking further into the more remote areas of Scotland. I often stand watching the clouds changing wondering what this new day will bring.

I am always exhilarated by the huge skies up here in Scotland and am fascinated by the continually moving cloud formations. In this piece I used cold wax mixed into the oil paint to create a thicker more impasto effect. Also the water has a thin layer of metallic acrylic paint, adding a beautiful shimmer when it catches the light.
