‘Sanctuaries for the soul’

This collection of landscape paintings were created in the 2nd and 3rd lockdowns that came about from the Covid pandemic. I was limited to walking closer to home than usual and began looking more closely at views that I had previously taken for granted.

I painted in oil and cold wax which gives a lovely depth and soft impasto effect, which also meant when I imprinted different textured fabrics and objects into the wet paint it created beautiful patterns.

Looking at you, Looking at me
£150.00

Original painting in oil and cold wax on cradled wooden panel.

As the days got warmer during the first lockdown, my dog Buster and I loved to walk by the water’s edge. I used to look across to the other side of the river Clyde and wonder how the people were coping over there, in a town that I wasn’t allowed to travel to due to the new rules. The sunlight on the building created a glow of hope.

'Nature can bring you to a stillness, that is it's gift to you' - Eckhart Tolle

The limitations that the lockdowns brought could be very frustrating. However it did remind me of the importance of spending time outside amongst nature, whether it is on a calm spring day or a wet windy one! It is only amongst nature that I can cut the abrasive noise that comes from daily life and still my mind, breathing deeply and restoring my mental wellbeing.

The hidden walkway
£150.00

Original painting in oil and cold wax on cradled wooden panel.

‘The safest path is not always the best path and I've learned that the voice of fear is not always to be trusted ‘ - S. Goodier

The tidal flow of the river Clyde into a basin meant that this old stone walkway would sometimes be revealed. Even though it was very slippery and treacherous I would cross over to an isolated area where I could sit in a peaceful stillness. Being amongst nature is vital to restore my equanimity and return my mind to a calm serenity away from the roller coaster of emotions that Covid 19 brought.

Seeing the world with my heart
from £150.00

Original painting in oil and cold wax on cradled wooden panel

It was always exciting to find new routes, due to the restrictions to stay locally during Lockdown 2020, which meant finding new feasts for my eyes! Once again I was drawn to the patterns that I saw in the countryside. I collected both natural and manmade items on my walks which I then used to imprint into the paint. Through colour, pattern and texture this painting is about the joy that being out in nature gives me.

This painting was an absolute joy to paint as it came deep from within. It is a reaction to seeing signs of an awakening from a winter hibernation, both from Nature as well as signs of the UK coming out of the lockdown restraints.

The sides are painted black with a picture mount screwed into the back so it is ready to hang.

Unframed is 30 x 30 x 1.5cm.
