A quick one so that you can spend time reading my blog!

Hello everyone and a warm welcome to new subscribers.

Yes I know we are now into March, but I did actually start writing this last week when it was still February! I will keep this month’s email short so that you can spend more time reading the new blog post that I have finally got around to posting on my website!

Latest work

I have been busy with the nine paintings that have been inspired by my trips to Arran. I have nine on the go and I’m always amazed by how some pieces flow easily out of me onto the panel and then there are others that just won’t play nicely!

I posted on social media about my struggles with two particular paintings. I came to the conclusion that I lose my way when I am working from photos, rather than working intuitively, noticing and responding to the marks and patterns that arise as I paint. I need to be led by the paint not a photographic image.

Here are 3 that are waiting for their finishing touches and the other 6 are very close. I really hope to finish this series in the next couple of weeks.

New format

I have ordered some new panels and frames which are different from my usual square format. I have been thinking a lot about composition recently, due to the course I have been doing by Sally Hirst. I think that this more panoramic format will be ideal for my landscapes. I was going to include them in this current series but I think I will keep them for the next one!

Finally I have got around to writing a second blog. This one is about where I get my inspiration from, especially as I don’t want to create paintings that are an exact representation of what I see outside on my walks
